Before we explore what exactly Tai Chi is, please let us know a little more about you. This will help us help you. For example, you might have asked yourself one or more of the following questions:
1. I'm in my 50's and I would like to do something more interesting than a regular exercise class, but I don't want to get hurt. Can I do Tai Chi?
The average age of our Students is in the 50's, but we have had students as ranging from twelve years of age to ninety-two. This already makes for an interesting group of people to meet! Tai Chi moves are gentle, no-impact and slow in nature so the risk of injury is extremely slim/next-to-none.
2. I'm getting more and more inflexible as I get older but I find Yoga and Pilates too difficult. What makes your approach different?
Our Gentle Qi Gong Yoga Pilates Warm-Up is exactly that, very gentle. We use a "No Pain for Plenty of Gain" approach. Our carefully designed warm-up works with your body and uses a "non-contraindicated" approach to help you increase your ease of movement for everyday activities.
Practiced consistently, these warm-ups combined with your Tai Chi moves will promote greater flexibility.
3. Will Tai Chi help me to improve my balance?
As we get older, the concerns about falling get greater and greater. As you continue practicing the slow, deliberate moves of Tai Chi you will become more aware and concious of how your body moves and functions in space and in simple everyday tasks like standing up and sitting down, getting out of cars, lifting packages and navigating around objects and people. This skill and awareness is called "pro-prioception". when you increase your pro-prioceptive skills, you decrease your chances of falls, accidents and injury.
4. Will Tai Chi help me with my breathing?
The answer to this question is many-leveled. In order for us to help you, you must ask yourself and tell us "What is my situation or goal"? because you are already breathing as you are reading this.
a.) Do you have a serious medical condition?
Please consult with your physician if this is the case and we will work with any recommendations your physician may have.
b.) Are you an advanced athlete that wants to increase your performance?
Tai Chi can help with calming the mind that will in turn positively affect the functioning of the body's respiratory system, and that in turn can positively affect athletic performance.
c.) Do you "just want to breathe better"?
If you have no serious issues, Tai Chi can help because it focuses on slow, concious, deep abdominal breathing to initiate movement.
Please consult with Lao Shir Ming for any concerns you may have.

These questions reflect a "broad stroke" field of what you might ask. You may fall under one of these fields, part of one of these situations, or you may have another question altogether. Please feel free to call us and tell us what you are looking to do to enhance your life and lifestyle at 845 729 3722.
Consult your physician before engaging in any exercise program.
